Immigration Categories

 

  1.  Family Class

The applicant must be sponsored by a very close family member who is already a Canadian citizen or permanent resident - i.e., a husband sponsoring a wife or a child sponsoring parents.

2.  Economic Classes

     A.  Business Applicants

       (a) Investor Designed for immigrants who do not want to be active in business in     Canada
   
     (b) Entrepreneur Designed for immigrants who do want to be active in business in Canada
   
     (c) Self-Employment Designed for immigrants who do want to be active in business in Canada
   

     B.  Skilled Workers

3.  Applications on Humanitarian or Compassionate Grounds or Special Cases.

Application Process

The application is filed in a visa office outside Canada along with supporting documentation to verify that the applicant comes within the appropriate immigration category.  Sometimes an interview with a visa officer is required. Medical examinations and security checks are done for all family members. The visa is then issued. The length of time time required to process an application depends on the visa office used and the type of application.
